Welcome to the Jungle

So check it, yesterday we went jungle (Khao Sok) hoping on elephants and canoeing down Jungle River and it was to say the least… quite spectacular! Now… we have been in tropical landscape before, when we were in Hawaii, but not like this. Looking at the extensive wildlife this jungle is infested with and the denseness of the jungle itself expanding over a greater area of land, it is really something special. The sound of all the insects and animals was seriously intense and I must say it is really hard to imagine it being any other way than in this very natural way. It has however come to my attention that as we found out, when the tsunami hit this part of Thailand, apparently the whole rainforest went dead quiet; it is really sad no one took greater notice to the animal behavior at the time (and we’re supposed to be the smart species). Moving back to the experience of the jungle, we did get to see some of the wildlife too, like for example we saw beautiful fish in the water and of course the elephants we rode on along with all of the different colored lizards and geckos crawling about, but the coolest thing without a doubt would have to be the 4 snakes we saw. Granted one was a dead king cobra in a water tank I am quite happy with the spotting of the ones I did see. The first one weaved down through some leafs when we were on the elephants and it was colored with black and orange stripes going along its body, supposedly very poisonous. The second was the dead king cobra; ) The next too however were not very dead and we saw them hanging in the tree branches stretching out over the river which we were going down in our canoes… yikkes! The first was called something I don’t remember but it was poisonous and it had black and yellow stripes. The second of the two however was the ever so familiar python which was a little bigger than the previous one; )! Now I’m no big fan of snakes but when you see them at a distance I do think they are quite marvelous creatures. So with all this being done in a day, with the elephant trekking and the canoeing I do consider myself a little bit more satisfied with jungle exploration I’ve been looking to do on this trip. Though I am still looking forward to have the chance to explore further next week as I have a nights sleeping in the national park with the backpacker crew I’m travelling with from Bangkok to Singapore, and I must say its going to be fun as long as the snakes keep their distance ; )!

Cheers and check for pictures tomorrow as I will upload some before I head to Bangkok on Saturday to start my next adventure, leaving mom and dad to head home after two most wonderful weeks without any worries!
